Jesus said, “…anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12 NIVO) Immediately our minds race to all of the amazing miracles that Jesus did during His three year ministry on the earth. Turning water into wine, healing the sick, raising Lazarus from the dead…If we have faith in Jesus we will do even greater works than these? There are teachers today who won’t even flinch in saying, “Absolutely!” One of the teachers is the Pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Bill Johnson has been the pastor at Bethel for many years. The church draws thousands upon thousands of people each week, thousands more listen online to Pastor Johnson’s sermons, and he is in high demand at Christian conferences all over the world. This is what Pastor Johnson wrote about what Jesus said.Continue reading “Greater Works Than Jesus? John 14:10-14”
“Trouble… trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble. Trouble been doggin’ my soul since the day I was born. Worry… worry, worry, worry, worry. Worry just will not seem to leave my mind alone.”These are the lyrics of Ray LaMontagne’s hit song, “Trouble” from a few years ago. Trouble and worry. They are just two words, but there’s not a person present this morning that doesn’t know about trouble and worry. Trouble and worry come to our hearts and minds in all kinds of packages, but their delivery is certain…you just aren’t going to escape the troubles of life and the worries that can keep us up at night. Jesus said,
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIVO)
Sickness, the loss of a loved one, financial problems, conflict in our relationships, an emptiness that gnaws at our soul, parents worrying about their kids, kids worrying about their parents, the list of troubles and worries seems to have no end.
Everyone has questions about life. Questions that classes in school were not able to answer, questions that arise from deep inside of us, but what do we do with those questions? Beginning Sunday, September 11, at 6 pm we will begin Alpha at Britton Christian Church. Alpha is a 10 week opportunity for people to gather and share their questions in a safe environment. I’ll be sharing more about Alpha with you in the coming weeks.
Today is Mother’s Day and I’ve got to take this opportunity to share with the moms who are with us today. Mom, you are a treasure. You are a priceless treasure, a gift from God. You probably don’t hear “thank you” nearly enough. The selfless acts of service you offer over and over again for your family often goes unnoticed, but you need to know that you are a treasure. Our Cinco de Mayo Celebration was beyond my wildest dreams! Our people worked together with the staff at Britton Elementary School in putting everything together and it could not have been any more wonderful. Thank you, thank you to every single person who worked to make it such a memorable day for everyone. I hope you enjoy the pictures!
We all know about the “Class of 2016” and their plans to travel to the four corners of the earth to celebrate their great accomplishment of graduating from high school. Well, fifty-three seniors from Britton Christian Church just got back from a trip of their own and it was amazing! This is our second year in a row to take a Senior Trip and it was even better than the first! We had lots of first timers join us for our trip to Branson, Missouri to see the sights, enjoy the shows, eat until we couldn’t eat any more, and enjoy the best fellowship found anywhere on the planet!
