Barb Munneke & Ralph Rogers
Mentor Spotlight
BCC Learning Center

IMG_1577It’s impossible to accomplish what happens in the Learning Center each week without the true, authentic, and God-honoring love shown by the faithful mentors who have committed their lives to serving our youth.

The Learning Center, made up of Study Buddies (1st-5th grade), and Mid/Hi (6th-12th grade), is built upon three E’s: Empowerment, Education, and Eternity. These E’s are woven into everything we do in this ministry. The great thing about the folks who share their lives with our youth each week is that – “EMPOWERING youth through EDUCATION for ETERNITY” comes very naturally.

Case in point:

Barb Munneke and Ralph Rogers have been serving our youth in Study Buddies for several years now. They both display an undaunting passion to see kids living full, successful, and God-honoring lives. Just about anybody can agree to tutor a struggling student, but what happens when that student lets you into their world? A world with a trail of heartbreak and disappointment as long as I-40. A world filled with struggle. Do you turn to that kid and say, “I’m sorry to hear that, but we have to finish your homework?”20120217-DSC_1398

That’s not at all what Barb and Ralph have done. When our kids open the door of their hearts to Barb and Ralph, they walk right into whatever that child is dealing with. They pour themselves out to these kids in unexplainable ways. This is not something you can teach. It has to be in you for it to come out when it’s needed and it starts with knowing the love that Jesus has for you personally. Not only are Barb and Ralph teaching kids how to read and count. They are showing them what Jesus looks like. Anyone can talk about God and what He wants, but when your life has been truly impacted by the love of God, you live with a purpose to see others enjoy the fellowship you have with Him. Thanks Barb and Ralph. Thanks for worshipping our God through serving our youth.

If you ever get bored with your life, if you ever start looking for more out of your investments, I strongly encourage you to follow in the footsteps of Barb and Ralph and join them on Tuesdays and Thursdays serving our youth. Mentors make the difference.

You and Me Forever

Beginning next Thursday evening @ 7:00pm, Krista & Phil Singleton will be leading a NEW K-Group study for those of us who want to go deeper in our relationships with God and our spouses!

To SIGN UP please contact Krista Singleton @ (405) 6420258 OR Tre’ Clark @ (405) 521-7814.

Read the excerpt below on the book by Francis and Lisa Chan, You and Me Forever and watch the VIDEO.

Marriage is great, but it’s not forever. It’s until death do us part. Then come eternal rewards or regrets depending on how we spent our lives.

In his latest book, Francis Chan joins together with his wife Lisa to address the question many couples wonder at the altar: How do I have a great marriage? Setting aside typical topics on marriage, Francis and Lisa dive into Scripture to understand what it means to have a relationship that satisfies the deepest parts of our souls.

In the same way Crazy Love changed the way we saw our personal relationship with God, You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity will radically shift the way we see one of the most important relationships in our life.

Jesus was right. We have it all backwards. The way to have a great marriage is by not focusing on marriage. Whether you are single, dating or married, You and Me Forever will help you discover the adventure that you were made for and learn how to thrive in it.

100% of the net profits from You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity will go towards providing food, shelter and rehabilitation for thousands of orphaned children and exploited women in partnership with global charities.

20141023_170058Last week was a blast as the kids from the BCC Learning Center (Study Buddies) came out to show their art skills. This was our 2nd Annual Pump’d Pumpkin decorating party. It’s always fun to see what creative minds we have among us!

Have a look!

Celeste Cotton
Senior Spotlight

Celeste Cotton Senior Spotlight
Celeste Cotton Senior @ Casady

There is much talk about the degradation of our youth. You can search just about anywhere and hear depressing statistics about how poorly young people are preforming in life. While much of those reports are true, they do not represent all youth, especially not young folks like Celeste Cotton.

I asked Celeste if high school was what she expected it to be growing up and she replied by saying, “No”. I asked her to explain her answer, thinking that she would respond by saying that the work was harder, the school was boring, or that she had more difficulty making friends, but she said none of those things. She told me that “[she] didn’t think [she] would be where [she is]” – at Casady. She thought that she would end up in a low-performing public school struggling to stay motivated to succeed. But, God had another plan!

Today, Celeste is a senior at Casady, a private school, here in Oklahoma City. She began attending school there as a Freshman after graduating from Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School. Celeste grew up about 1/2 a mile north from where BCC sits and she and her family still live there today. I bring this up because the kids in “this” neighborhood get a very bad reputation. Considering the odds they face, much of the expectation is that “these kids” will not survive their high school years. Pastor Mike Hays is known for quoting a staggering statistic that 50% of the kids in the neighborhood Celeste lives in – the same neighborhood where BCC is – WILL NOT graduate. Well, Celeste WILL graduate!

What makes her different? Great question.

Celeste has always been a “go-getta”. She is focused and driven. She also has a mother she looks up to. In her own words, “the hardest working person I know.” She describes her mother as “selfless”. Her mother, a graduate of Langston University, encourages her success and supports her academic and future choices. Celeste also has a strong faith in Christ. She attributes her faith to her mother and to BCC.

Celeste started attending BCC via the Study Buddies after-school ministry while she was a 3rd grader at Britton Elementary. Now, along with her studies, dancing for Life-Change Ballroom, sports, and her community service through our youth ministry, Celeste also volunteers her time to tutor kids in the Mid/High Learning Center at BCC on Tuesday and Thursday nights. She says that thanks to Study Buddies she was able to find a church she could enjoy and one that would challenge her in her faith and walk with her in life.

When asked what she plans to do post high school, she said that she plans to attend college, major in Physical Therapy, minor in Spanish and pledge Delta. It is my honor to share Celeste’s story with you all. If you see her around please congratulate her and encourage her to continue trusting Christ and reaching her goals.

Night of Worship

K-Groups are a vital part of the ministry of Britton Christian Church. If, for some strange reason, our building ceased to exist, what God began in the pews of BCC would continue in the homes of our members. Community is important and the Christian life was meant to be lived with other people. That’s why you are invited to join us on the night of October 26th from 5:30p-7:30p for a time of worship! Come and fellowship with K-Groups from BCC and experience – firsthand – what God is doing in the heads, hearts, and homes of people. Our two hours together will be spent focusing our attention completely upon God through songs, poetry, scripture reading, prayer. And that’s just the first hour!! After this we will break off into smaller groups as each K-Group leader will facilitate a time of study.

Please make time to join us! We have plenty of seats available!!

Get PUMP’D!!

Get PUMP’D!! That’s right!!

I just received a TON of pumpkins and I need some EAGER and CREATIVE young minds to join me and the BCC Learning Center for a scary good time!

On October 23rd – one night before the annual BCC Fall Festival – come to the church and pick a pumpkin to decorate.

YOU’RE NOT AN ARTIST you say! Well, that’s just alright! Come out any way! You’ll have a blast watching our youth really “get into” their work.

This great event will be happening on October 23rd beginning at 3pm – 6pm, and meets in the gym!

See you soon!!

God at Work in Sierra Leone

As Jesus prepared to leave this earth and take His rightful place on the throne with the Father, He gave His followers this charge: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matt. 28:19). How would they (we) be able to do this? By the power of the Spirit-God! “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
