Hi Everyone,

I’ve known Reggie Smith since he was in grade school. I watched him play football at Edmond Santa Fe High School and excel in athletics from the time he was a Freshman. Reggie went through the ACT Prep Program at Britton Christian Church as he was preparing to transition to the University of Oklahoma and play football. I was thrilled for him when he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers. I prayed for Reggie in my office as he got ready to leave for training camp with the Carolina Panthers this season. I’ve always been a fan of Reggie Smith because I grew up with, and remain friends with, Reggie’s dad and uncle, Reggie Sr. and Mike, in Duncan, OK.

I know what an amazing family Reggie is blessed with and how they have impacted his life, throughout his life. Still, many successful people have the benefit of growing up with wonderful parents and yet they lose sight of the blessings they’ve received in life. Through all of his success Reggie has remained humble, caring, and giving. He has been so generous in giving his time to come to the church and hang out with the kids, encouraging them to stay in school, and make good choices in life. He has been more than generous with his money by providing Thanksgiving baskets to families in need in our community. Just today, Reggie took 17 of our kids to The Finish Line to buy them shoes and clothes for Christmas.

The media never misses an opportunity to shine a spotlight on high profile athletes who make poor decisions, but they will never tell the story of the generosity of Reggie Smith and the way that he continually gives back to the kids in our city…and that’s just the way Reggie would have it. I’m taking the time to share the story with you because I think it is important for everyone to know that there are young people in our community who are more interested in being a blessing than blowing their own horn. Thanks for being a blessing Reggie.

In His Steps,
Mike
